SCHEDULE: 

June 21 - August 16, 2024. Monday – Friday, 5 Hours/Day, 25 Hours/Week.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Cook is responsible for daily food service operations of the Summer Food Services Program.


PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITES

  • Prepares breakfast and lunch for the SFSP, prepares all meals following the provided quantity food recipes, and follows the provided menu with no alteration unless approved by the SFSP Program Manager.
  • Maintains an understanding of USDA requirements.
  • Maintains sanitary food practices in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Assists in ordering food and dairy beverages from approved vendors, accepting delivery of products and forwarding invoices to the SFSP program manager.
  • Assists in purchasing products at local stores.
  • Communicates daily participant counts between summer camp and the kitchen.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, refrigerator, freezers, stoves and ovens, all cleaning must be performed on a routine as well as "as-needed" basis.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory and informs the SFSP administrator of any items "running low."
  • Transports meals to sites prior to meal service as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Maintain adequate knowledge of all CAPBM programs to make referrals to other CAPBM programs beneficial to the participant.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff per CAPBM policy and procedure. Adhere strictly to the confidentiality of clients, co-workers, and internal business information.
  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM.  
  • Follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with the supervisor regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment; and attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work, use time appropriately, and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.

Requirements

Experience:

  • One year of experience in commercial kitchens or equivalent food service experience.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as needed.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards as they relate to food preparation, service, and storage.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency credential.

License/Certification:

  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • ServSafe certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel.
