About the role

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).  Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.  Our VISION is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. This position reports to the Division Manager of Quality Performance Assurance (QPA) as a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist 1. The QA Specialist 1 assists with the implementation of the company-wide QA program to include issues management, QA procedures, trending analysis, independent assessments/audits, independent surveillances, management assessments, and supporting external assessment. This position is a representative of the QPA organization to subject organizations and will work closely with leadership and teams to foster a culture of self-criticality, openness, safety, and transparency. This position serves as a QA subject matter expert (SME) for QPA and provides guidance to organizations with regards to QA requirements and inspects, audits, and assesses QA and technical aspects of work performed at the NNSS.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs work of limited scope and basic complexity, generally in support of more senior professionals, including participating in and assisting on assessment activities.
  • Develops solutions to routine problems of limited scope. Focus is on applying academic knowledge to the work and developing good work/team habits.
  • Maintains a working knowledge on the various requirements and how they may impact each Company organization. Major areas may include but are not limited to: radiological protection, worker safety and health, accident/incident investigations, and security.
  • Participates in causal analysis, assessments, or special projects as necessary.
  • Assists in compiling and summarizing data and in the identification of potential or actual areas of non-compliance.
  • Attends conferences and meetings and develop relationships with leaders in the customer community.
  • Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision. Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technical field related to the position or equivalent training and experience.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent research, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all levels of people, from front line to executive leadership, in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Minimal, occasional contacts with customers, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
  • Works under direct supervision with general guidance from more experienced compliance officers. Limited use and/or application of principles, theories, and concepts. Follows specific established procedures and instructions.
  • Closely coordinates work efforts through interaction with peers, project leaders, and supervisor.
  • May seek information from other Company sources. 
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and be able to employ independent judgment, creativity and initiative to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems.
