About the role

Purpose of the Position:

We are currently seeking a research scientist to support the machine/deep learning efforts and provide numerical modeling expertise. Knowledge of the assimilation of remote sensing products is strongly desired. The candidate for the position should have a broad knowledge of atmospheric and land surface processes as well as atmospheric and satellite-based datasets for integration into machine learning applications. They will be expected to assist in the running of machine/deep learning and numerical models, provide statistical evaluation of model output, and engage with the broader scientific and operational community to assess their use within weather/water forecasting and agricultural communities. The position will be located at the National Space Science & Technology Center in Huntsville, Alabama and will support the scientific development and application of machine learning and satellite remote sensing products.
The Land Surface/Hydrology team at NASA MSFC is engaged in a multi-center project to develop and transition the 3rd generation of the North American Land Data Assimilation System to operational end-users in the agricultural, drought, and water resources communities. The NASA MSFC Land Surface/Hydrology team is collaborating with the University of Alabama in Huntsville to provide direct science support along with science and technical coordination in the areas of weather, water, land surface modeling, satellite remote sensing, and data science and machine learning applications.
