About the role

WHO WE ARE:

At Firematic, we've spent over 50 years serving those who protect us all. As a family-owned business, we take pride in delivering not just equipment—but reliability, trust, and unmatched support to fire departments across our region.

Our customers depend on us when it matters most—and we're looking for someone who shares that responsibility.

THE ROLE:

This is first and foremost a mechanical and technical position.

As a Rescue Equipment Service Technician, you'll become the technical expert for Hurst Jaws of Life rescue tools and fire equipment throughout your assigned territory. You'll work directly with fire departments performing inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete rebuilds of hydraulic and battery-powered rescue equipment.

You'll be expected to confidently disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble complex mechanical systems while ensuring every tool meets manufacturer specifications and safety standards.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, solving mechanical problems, and takes pride in restoring equipment to peak performance. If you're the type of person who wants to know how something works, isn't afraid to take it apart, and has the skill to put it back together better than before, you'll thrive in this role.

You'll build relationships in the firehouse, on the training ground, and in the field by providing dependable service, technical expertise, and hands-on support that firefighters can rely on.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude is essential—you enjoy taking equipment apart, diagnosing problems, rebuilding machinery, and understanding how mechanical systems operate
  • Background in equipment service, automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, hydraulics, or similar mechanical field
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild mechanical and hydraulic equipment with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, including battery-powered rescue systems and electronic diagnostics
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with first responders
  • Self-starter who thrives working independently in a field-based service role
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear, practical way and confidently train end users
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Service & Technical Support

  • Perform annual inspections, preventative maintenance, testing, repairs, and complete rebuilds on Hurst Jaws of Life hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform repairs both in the field and in the shop
  • Disassemble equipment, replace worn or damaged components, rebuild assemblies, and return tools to manufacturer performance specifications
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures on-site and provide timely technical solutions
  • Calibrate, test, and certify equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, inspection records, and repair reports
  • Manage inventory of service parts, tools, and equipment required to support field repairs

Training & Customer Support

  • Conduct hands-on maintenance instruction, tool familiarization, and operational training
  • Educate departments on proper equipment operation, preventative maintenance, inspection procedures, and best practices
  • Serve as the trusted technical resource for chiefs, officers, mechanics, and firefighters
  • Respond promptly to customer service requests and help departments minimize equipment downtime
  • Build long-term customer relationships through exceptional service, professionalism, and technical expertise

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Background repairing hydraulic systems, rescue tools, heavy equipment, automotive, diesel, industrial machinery, or emergency equipment
  • Experience diagnosing, rebuilding, and servicing complex mechanical equipment
  • Firefighter, EMT, or experience working with fire departments is a plus
  • Experience providing field service, equipment maintenance, or technical support

WHY FIREMATIC?

  • Established, respected name in the fire service industry
  • Strong existing customer relationships across Long Island and beyond
  • Team-oriented, family-run culture with long-tenured employees
