Assistant Director of Lab (58923)

Assumes authority and responsibility for all matters of the laboratory including the daily efficient operation of all sections of the laboratory, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, good quality control practices, scheduling, personnel policy interpretation and counseling, personnel evaluations, determines and carries out personnel disciplinary action, recruitment, retention and discharge of personnel, equipment and record keeping maintenance, adequate supply inventory, and reference laboratory testing, maintenance of budget limits; maintains good rapport with administration, other departments, and physicians.

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science (medical technology), one of the specialty areas, or one of chemical or biological sciences preferred.

Master’s degree preferred.

ASCP certified or eligible as a medical laboratory scientist or specialist in a specialty field.  

ASCP certification as a diplomat in laboratory management desirable.

Current BLS certification.  

Experience:

Two years’ experience in a supervisory role.

Experience with departmental budgets, inventory logistics, instrument acquisition, personnel and labor laws, quality improvement, and hospital committees. Experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations.
