Summary
Attends the Emergency Medical Technician Accelerated program through the GEM-EMI Training Institute daily for the required four (4) weeks. Trains in basic life support (BLS) services, learning skills to assist in emergency medical, traumatic, psychiatric care, and stabilization for patients in accidents or illness scenes and during transportation to medical facilities and/or during interfacility transports.

Job Duties
  • Represents the ambulance service in a professional manor at all times while participating in the Emergency Medical Technician Program.
  • Participates in all trainings to learn how to assist with advanced life support (ALS ) services for paramedic partners with patients requiring higher levels of care along with emergency scene management and coordination with other emergency services.
  • Participates in all training to learn how to care\ for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crisis by providing medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services.
  • Learns and practices proper EMS Documentation of full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software.
  • Understands how to work together as a member of a two member ambulance crew responding to emergency and nonemergency calls.
  • Practices how to assess the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Trains on essential communication skils with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment.
  • Participates in clinical lab scenarios to learn how to stabilize, immobilize, lift, and move victims from scene of accident or catastrophe.
  • Develops an understanding of equipment inspection schedules and verifies that all equipment is being inspected and reviewed for compliance and makes recommendations for risk reductions on workplace injuries. Practices proper cleaning and decontamination practices of an ambulance after transporting or treating any patient.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and
  • Less than 1 year
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and to utilize critical thinking.
  • Ability to drive an ambulance safely under various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrates and adheres to program policies and procedures regarding ambulance safety and transport communications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of college and
  • NIMS 100,200,700
  • NREMT EMT-B Basic - State of Pennsylvania
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania
  • EMSVO Certification - State of Pennsylvania

Physical Demands
Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
