Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Center for Student Involvement (CSI), the Senior Associate Director for Training and Development is responsible for directing the overall strategy and approach for CSI’s 200+ recognized student organizations. The Senior Associate Director for Training and Development will oversee all aspects of the annual RSO re-registration process and required training curriculum for student organization leadership, including policy development, revision of the RSO handbook, and compliance with University guidelines. The Senior Associate Director supervises  full-time professional staff members and manages a range of programs and events. This position will serve on university-wide committees and work collaboratively with campus partners to support CSI initiatives at the direction of the Director, Center for Student Involvement. The Senior Associate Director for Training and Development supports the Center for Student Involvement in the absence of the Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervision and Program Support: Directs the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, professional development, and evaluation of professional and student staff.  Develops performance standards, reviews, and makes performance evaluations, provides guidance to staff, and approves personnel actions in accordance with university policies. Directly supervises full-time professional staff members and indirectly supervises the graduate students. This position also supports CSI programs and events as needed, including the Fall and Spring Involvement Fair and Annual Student Organization Summit.

  • Student Advising: Advises and supports a diverse portfolio of recognized student organizations. This includes, but is not limited to, mentoring organizational leadership, attending organizational meetings as needed, supporting complex events, facilitating dialogue between student organizations that fosters inclusion and sense of belonging, and collaborating with campus partners to support development needs for recognized student organizations.  

  • Training and Development: Plan and coordinate comprehensive training and development modules for student organization leaders, and advisors to student organizations. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director, Student Involvement on student organization leadership trainings covering university policies, risk and organization management, and member development. Support and create training for student organization advisors. Utilize Engage to support student organization development and support, develop and launch the AU co-curricular Transcript.

  • Administration & Budget Management: Manage budget and oversee funding process for student cohort services and programming within functional area. Ensure fiscal responsibility, effective planning, effective use of resources, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies and procedures. Review and update polices and procedures in the RSO handbook and publish updates yearly. Develop learning outcomes and assessment for Student Organizations. Create end-of-year reports for assigned functional area. Represent department on content specific division-wide committees, and manage and adjudicate minor student organization violations in conjunction with Student Accountability and Restorative Practices.

  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Coordinate with other Student Affairs and University departments, and external organizations including Hillel, Chabad, AU Anti-Racist Center, Center for Islamic and Middle East Studies, etc. to conceive, develop, and execute initiative
