POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join our team! This position will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including but not limited to grounds maintenance and landscaping within the park. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of our park facilities, ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation. This part-time position will work about 19 hours per week, which may include daytime hours, evenings, and occasional weekends based upon business needs.

Region Specific Information: The Central Region Maintenance & Operations Assistants will cover parks located in Central Charlotte, or Uptown area of Charlotte. A few of the parks within the Central Region are First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park, and Freedom Park. These venues host many large-scale community events each year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
•Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
•Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
•Perform general custodial work
•Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
•Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
No experience required

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: N/A

Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges

Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:
•Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
•Occupational hazards and necessary safety precaut
