Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider.  Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time.  Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently recruiting a FT Facilities Maintenance Technician with maintenance experience or training.  The Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance of facilities & equipment of Roof Above Properties.  Therefore, passion, respect, and an understanding that this job directly provides daily support for those served by our mission is a must.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Maintenance of Facility and equipment
Minor repairs of Facility and equipment
Prepare vacant apartments for new tenants
Completing preventative maintenance routines
Execute work orders in a timely fashion and report any delays immediately to supervisor
Perform preventative and reactive maintenance tasks as assigned by Facility Manager
Execute electrical and plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installations
Perform handyman work functions to include painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
Communicate to facility manager site conditions and concerns
Communicate with staff and/or tenants on work order process
Be willing, on occasion, to perform humble tasks as they relate to the nature of our work
Be positive support of all Roof Above programs and staff 
Be good stewards of all Roof Above property
Participates in staff meetings, training, and development activities as directed.  
Performs other major maintenance duties as directed by supervisor or leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

WORKING ENVIRONMENT



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

At least 5+ years of experience performing maintenance on commercial and residential buildings
Good understanding and ability to repair, install, and maintain HVAC, plumbing fundamentals and electrical systems and equipment
Ability to work with power tools, and perform carpentry, paint, and plastering work
High school education (or equivalent) preferred; must have basic reading, writing, and math skills
Substantial relevant experience may be substituted for education
Must be flexible in addressing tenant concerns
Task oriented - Proven experience in working autonomously in the absence of others or without Supervisor’s direction.
Team oriented - Experience working in groups and can treat others in a positive manner; must be able to communicate effectively with agency staff, facility staff and facility manager
Customer oriented - good customer service skills
Basic computer data entry, and mobile phone skills required for time & attendance related functions.
Demonstrated ability to manage time and schedule requirements.   
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with staffs & clients.   
Valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Ability to tolerate physical contact with, use of, and in close proximity to approved cleaning chemicals and supplies.
