Railroad Surveyor - Atlanta, GA 

Join us as a Railroad Surveyor in our thriving Railroad Services group. As a Surveyor in our Railroad team, you will be responsible for the topographic field work, construction inspection surveying, assisting field personnel, earthwork volumes, drone data collection, boundary monument searches, office data reduction, assistance with scheduling, Recorder’s Office research, boundary calculations, creation of plats, and writing legal descriptions. The opportunity to research new technologies and their applications would also be a factor for this candidate. There is a wide array of skills that could be learned, strengthened, and utilized within this position.

Benesch’s Railroad Division is made up of highly skilled rail professionals, many of whom are former employees of operating railroads. This firsthand experience working to design and maintain active rail systems uniquely equips our team to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of rail projects.

 

The Impact You Will Have: 

  • Establish survey requirements in conjunction with Manager. 
  • Perform and document survey in accordance with proper surveying standards and contract requirements.
  • Research pertinent records needed to perform the survey.
  • Perform calculations and analyze measurements in determining property locations and developing legal descriptions.
  • Prepare the final plat or supervise the drafting of the final plat.
  • Report to Sr. Surveyor and/or Project Manager on progress of work, status of work remaining to be done compared to budget available and other pertinent technical issues.
  • Prepare and/or review all survey-related project correspondence.
  • Assist with data compilation to facilitate the accurate and efficient transfer from field to office personnel.
  • Implement quality control procedures as defined by the Project Quality Management Plan.
  • Relay clarification on specific tasks requested by office survey/engineering to field personnel.
  • Communicate issues that develop in the field to the Project Manager.
  • Notify and document for the Project Manager all out-of-scope work.
  • Participate in contract negotiations as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Establish and maintain procedures/guidelines for field and office operations with respect to the survey requirements of assigned projects.
  • Review and verify Project Manager’s estimate of budget and schedule.

What You Will Need:

  • P.L.S. or S.I.T. preferred, but not required.
  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Survey & Geomatics, Survey Technology, or other related surveying program preferred, HS diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in drafting plats and boundary calculations using Bentley SS10/Openroads preferred. 
  • Great Communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to flex between office and field work.
  • Advanced knowledge of appropriate software, hardware, and technologies, applicable codes, standards and survey instruments/tools and measurement. #LI-MM1
