Job Duties

The Cumberland Plateau Health District is seeking a Public Health Outreach Worker (PHOW) position that will be based at the Russell County Health Department and will serve the district as a Resource Mother. The PHOW will work with pregnant and parenting teenagers, and their families, throughout pregnancy and through infant's first birthday to improve health outcomes. Routine duties include providing education about how to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby; assisting Teen Moms with accessing healthcare, community programs, and educational opportunities to meet basic needs. Limited assistance with some baby care items and transportation on a case-by-case basis. This position will work closely with schools, healthcare providers, and community resource organizations to make a plan to support client through infant's first birthday.

Facilitates service delivery to clients in a health district or other direct service work
unit by interpreting language to staff and clients. Duties typically associated with
overall service delivery are well defined include: securing patient history; providing
basic health education; explaining various routine assessments, diagnostic and
treatment processes; and identifying other social or financial service providers to
contact for assistance. May provide transportation for clients or provide general
administrative tasks such as keyboarding, filing, and reception.

This is a restricted position which is solely funded by the TANF grant for a one year period ending June 30th each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications

 Ability to prepare required pre-clinic paperwork to maintain clinic flow, assist
with labeling and packaging lab specimens
 Good interpersonal relations skills including cultural sensitivity
 Office experience with public contact, keyboarding, filing, & organizing own
workload, working knowledge of computer applications
 Experience in health fairs and other community activities
 Ability to communicate with other agencies, assist clients to overcome
barriers to treatment and maintain accurate records and reports
