Senior Production Engineer

A Little About Us:

The Mail engineering team builds industry-leading Mail platforms and integrates with almost every Yahoo product in the company. We build and maintain platforms at scale and ensure that Yahoo Mail is always able to serve its hundreds of millions of users and billions of daily transactions. 

In the production engineering team, we use a combination of open-source software and develop our internal tools. We engineer automated solutions for daily operations, auto-scaling, auto-remediation, failure detection/predictions, and performing frequent changes while running thousands of servers and nodes non-interrupted. We encourage new ideas and continuously experiment and evaluate new technologies to assimilate them into our infrastructure. A Lot About You:

In this role, you will closely collaborate with architects and software developers to facilitate the delivery of our services to an extensive user base of Yahoo Mail users. As an essential team member, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and manage Yahoo Mail cloud infrastructure and migrate large-scale on-prem applications to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your main responsibilities will encompass the administration and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, including on-call support, monitoring, security best practices, automation, deployment, the establishment of CI/CD pipelines, and the formulation of reusable cloud infrastructure templates via infrastructure as code (IaC) methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field; Or, equivalent experience.

• 5+ years of experience in supporting Site Reliability, DevOps, Infrastructure, and handling on-call duties within Cloud environments, with a preference for experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Proficiency in managing GCP services, including Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Compute Engine (GCE), Networking, Security, CI/CD pipelines, and other common Cloud technologies.

• Proven experience working with very large-scale applications, computer systems, and networks.

• Proficiency in Linux, TCP/IP, HTTP, MAIL protocols, DNS, content delivery networks (CDN), load balancers, and troubleshooting techniques.

• Proficiency in constructing Infrastructure as Code (IAC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Helm Charts.

• Proficiency in programming using Python, Golang, or Java, along with the ability to build CI/CD pipelines for deploying services in these languages.

Nice to have:

• Cloud databases and storage platforms, such as Storage Services (GCS), Cloud SQL, Spanner, and Firestore.

• Experience building transaction processing systems (OLTP) and/or larger scale analytics (OLAP)

• Machine Learning and AI platforms, such as Vertex AI, Generative AI, BigQuery, Looker and DataProc

• Cloud observability , Open telemetry

• You have proven track records in migrating on-premise infrastructure to GCP or any cloud infrastructure. 

• You have years of operational experience in both on-premise and cloud environments.

• You are able to build the cloud services, including GKE and Spanner, from scratch using IaC (Terraform) and various build and CICD tools. 

• You are a collaborative team player and have a continuous improvement mindset. 

• You have good conversation and presentation skills to explain architecture and design of cloud technologies to senior engineering architects.

• You know how to set sprint goals to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and know the process of backlog refining, prioritizing backlog items and being an active participant in sprint planning sessions.
