Accounts Payable Specialist (Contract)

We are hiring an Accounts Payable Specialist who is well-versed in the life science industry and thrives in a start-up environment. Our ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, an excellent problem solver, have the ability to monitor processes closely for accuracy and will care passionately about the company's mission to help patients and change the world. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
About the Role
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Accounts Payable communications between external vendors and staff
- 1099 reporting
- Review and report Sales and Use Tax
- New Vendor Setup and review
- Process all invoices in an accurate and timely manner
- Reconcile the general ledger and all vendor accounts
- Work with departments to review, release, and create Purchase Orders
- Support the Controller with month-end and year-end close
- Help the Controller to implement and enforce processes and controls
- Assist the Controller with audits and proactively notify of any inconsistencies
- Other related projects and duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Accounts Payable is preferred, ideally within start-ups in the life science industry.
- Experience with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks Online and Bill.com
- Experience with Point Purchasing
- Ability to pick up on new software quickly and adapt to new systems
- Strong attention to detail, highly motivated, and good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and plan proactively to accomplish goals.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
The anticipated base hourly range for this position will be $35.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on the exact level of the role.
