About the role

What you will do:

The Director, Community Relations and State Public Affairs role is an integral part of both the Clarios Sustainability and Government Affairs team, as well as the Region’s Management Team, and, working with others in the Region (including human resources, communications and plant/operations management), is responsible for: Building, maintaining, and managing positive relationships between Clarios and government agencies, public officials, and regulatory bodies at the local and state levels in the United States and Canada (“Region”);

As part of broader Clarios strategy, driving impactful advocacy and fostering strategic relationships with local/state public officials and agencies and community stakeholders on a variety of key social and governmental issues that allow Clarios to conduct business in the most productive and competitive way consistent with Clarios’ Values and Strategies;

Playing a critical part in shaping Clarios’ public policy strategy and ensuring regulatory compliance, particularly as it relates to permitting, manufacturing operations, and broader corporate objectives and facilitating support of the same with relevant local and state government agencies, public officials, and regulatory bodies;

Helping shape and manage community level engagement and investment strategies (primarily at a plant, distribution center and office location level) with local communities generally and selected community level non-governmental organizations; and

Helping shape Clarios’ communications strategy in relation to the above and executing the same.  This role can be a remote role.

How you will do it:

Advocacy and Representation

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and state public officials, government staff, and regulatory agencies to support Clarios’ business interests. including mayors, city council members, local planning commissions, and other local government stakeholders

  • Represent Clarios in interactions with municipal, county, and state governments, ensuring a proactive approach to emerging regulations and local initiatives, and operational needs.

  • Support state and local advocacy efforts in alignment with Clarios’ business objectives and values.

  • Assist in drafting position statements, reports, and other materials to support government relations initiatives.

  • In close collaboration with global Government Affairs, represent Clarios in industry groups, working groups, and coalitions.

Problem Solving and Crisis/Issue Management

  • Coordinate and manage permitting and other regulatory processes, including documentation, renewals, and regulatory submissions.

  • Support compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements related to plant and other operations.

  • Monitor and analyze impacts of emerging and/or proposed legislative and regulatory developments at the local and state levels.

  • Address local issues impacting plants, distribution centers and offices including neighborhood complaints and any applicable good neighbor agreements.

  • Help shape and implement regional crisis management structures and activities within the at the local and state levels.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with Clarios’ plants, distribution centers and offices to support events such as groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings, and openings.

  • Partner with the Community Impact team to represent Clarios at relevant events and initiatives.

  • Support grassroots activities, including calls to action, plant tours, and distribution center activations.

  • Manage and deepen Clarios’ employee volunteerism program for the Region.

  • Shape and oversee community outreach program, partnering closely with Operations and Plant Management to engage with local communities.

  • Assist in drafting position statements, reports, and other materials to support community engagement initiatives.

Stakeholder Mapping, Strategic Insight, Trend and Public Policy Monitoring

  • Develop a structured process, methodology and tools to help the Region identify and manage key stakeholder information and create stakeholder maps which will include state and local officials, community groups, political influencers and social influencers.

  • Develop an intelligence-gathering strategy to identify non-legislative emerging trends and proactively address potential impacts to the business.

  • Monitor legislative and policy developments that may affect Clarios operations; analyze and report on potential impacts.
