Job Description:
The Innovation Garage at the BRIC is seeking a creative, self-motivated individual with a passion for learning and educating others about “making.” The Innovation Garage at the BRIC allows approved students, faculty, and staff exclusive access to creative tools and equipment, including 3D printers, a laser engraver, and various hand tools. The Innovation Garage Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment and occasionally provides guidance as approved users work to realize their projects. They regularly assist students, faculty, and staff through brainstorming, teaching, and assisting with equipment and tool use throughout the life of the project.
A good innovation space supervisor is one who does not shy away from trying new things and will actively go in search of the answer when presented with a unique challenge. They are flexible with their time, patient with new users who may have lots of questions, and willing to try new methods to accomplish their goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Manager of Creative Making.
- Maintaining the equipment and ensuring it is always in good working order.
- Consulting with users on making activities for approved academic projects.
- Training patrons on use of the various tools and equipment.
- Providing excellent customer service to users.
- Maintaining a clean and organized space.
- Facilitating space orientations for new users.
- Continually improving upon personal skills with regards to the equipment available
- Completing all assigned training in a punctual manner.
- Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
Preferred skills:
- Must have experience using 3D printers (FDM and resin), laser engravers, soldering, vinyl cutters, and basic hand tools.
- Strong social skills and good communication.
- Curiosity and a love of learning.
- Ability to prioritize and take initiative.
- Natural inclination towards cleanliness and good organization.
- Perform business operations duties for assigned area of responsibility
- Provide excellent customer service to clients
