Job Description
Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides primary and/or urgent care medical services within the scope of licensure, education, training, national certification, and applicable Texas law. The APRN functions as the primary onsite clinical provider in the Campus Clinic and practices pursuant to a Prescriptive Authority Agreement (PAA) with the Delegating Physician in accordance with Texas Occupations Code Chapter 157 and applicable rules of the Texas Medical Board and Texas Board of Nursing.
The APRN collaborates with the Delegating Physician regarding patient management, referral decisions, quality assurance activities, prescribing practices, and clinical protocols. The APRN supervises onsite clinical workflow involving nursing and administrative support staff.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within the APRN scope of practice.
- Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Order, perform, interpret, and document diagnostic studies and laboratory testing.
- Develop and implement treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions pursuant to delegated prescriptive authority and applicable Texas law.
- Provide preventive care and patient education.
- Recognize conditions requiring physician consultation, referral, or escalation of care.
- Initiate emergency response procedures when medically indicated.
Physician Collaboration and Compliance
- Practice pursuant to a written Prescriptive Authority Agreement with the Delegating Physician.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Delegating Physician regarding clinical management issues and patient care concerns.
- Participate in required quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Participate in periodic chart review and monthly meetings with the Delegating Physician as required by Texas law and clinic policy.
- Adhere to all clinic protocols, standing orders, and evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant medical documentation.
