Position Summary
The College of Business at MSU Denver is hiring an Experiential Learning Specialist, supported by President Janine Davidson’s commitment to providing opportunities for all students at the University to engage in Experiential Learning.
The College of Business, in service to our mission of engaging a diverse student population with an inclusive educational experience to become successful business professionals, seeks to increase student learning and retention through purposeful and planned experiential learning opportunities. This position will work directly and collaboratively with staff and faculty within the College of Business to ensure all students are provided the opportunity to engage with Denver metropolitan area businesses or non-profits through experiential learning. This position will also work collaboratively with staff from the university’s Classroom to Career Hub (C2Hub).
The Experiential Learning Specialist will enable the College of Business to provide data and track movement toward the University’s goal to have 100% student involvement in career preparation & experiential learning programs. This position reports to the Associate Dean in the College of Business.
Responsibilities
Internship Support - 30%
- Identify student internship needs, wants, and availability. Coordinate with department specific faculty and advisors to ensure student internship credits align with student curricular needs.
- Develop a simplified self-paced internship application form that matches each department's policies and procedures.
- Connect students to internships via announcements, university approved databases, referrals to workshops & career lab through the C2Hub, and faculty announcements.
- Work with the COB communications team to create relevant, engaging, and up-to-date social media, newsletter, email, and website content regarding internship events and opportunities.
- Assist in educating students, through workshops or connection to C2Hub programming, on aspects of the internship search & credit baring process.
Experiential Learning Programs - 30%
- Collaborate with COB Dean and/or Associate Dean(s) and aligned C2Hub Industry Navigators through regular meetings to support in information sharing & brainstorming regarding experiential learning and career-connected opportunities (events, workshops, certifications, talent pipeline, funding, etc.).
- Coordinate with faculty who are looking to implement the experiential projects in their courses to support in the development and implementation of projects and create a system for tracking.
- In collaboration with C2Hub Industry Navigators, identify, liaise with and catalogue organizations in the Denver Metropolitan area that are potential partners for experiential learning in the COB.
- Promote and, potentially, facilitate the implementation of experiential learning in classes, department and college meetings, among faculty and students.
- When requested, schedule and lead an after-action review with faculty and necessary stakeholders following an experiential learning project.
- Create a process for re-engaging and future tracking of organizations that have engaged MSU Denver COB classrooms in experiential learning. Include follow-ups for long-term efficacy of provided solutions at appropriate intervals (e.g., 3 – 6 – 9 months).
- Manage career competency related micro-credentialing programs developed and administered out of the COB.
- Promote experiential learning to prospective students and in support of general recruitment efforts.
