Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are seeking a Disease Intervention Specialist Supervisor.
This position provides direct supervision to Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) and relevant supervisors to ensure sexually transmitted infection (STI) control goals are achieved and staff is adequately trained. Provides technical assistance and consultation to local health districts (LHDs) on STI/HIV case management; coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of Field Operations activities at the local health department level; assists in the development of community coalitions and partnerships with community-based organizations and other public and private health care delivery providers. As needed, counsels patients with STI or HIV infection and performs partner notification activities; and conducts training for LHD staff and provides routine reports related to Field Operations and DIS actions within defined LHDs.
This position supports the delivery of services agency wide by developing policies, procedures, performing research, managing grants, providing technical guidance, coordinating resources, establishing liaisons in support of service delivery and assessing the impact of new policies, procedures, regulations. Work is primarily focused more on long range than intermediate issues. Staff carries out their responsibilities following broad parameters set forth by grants, program goals and objectives with supervisory involvement limited to actions which affect other organizational units and/or programs or are politically sensitive.
This incumbent will be expected to work primarily in RHHD’s downtown Richmond location at 400 E. Cary St. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Knowledge that supports assigned program
Excellent organization & presentation skills; strong networking abilities & communication skills
Ability to act independently, manage a multi-disciplinary statewide program, develop goals & evaluate progress
Experience with grant writing; budget management; supervision of staff
Additional Considerations
Previous experience in community health assessment/improvement process
Completion of CDC’s “Introduction to STD Intervention” or “Passport for Partner Services” course preferred.
Experience as a DIS.
Experience conducting training.
Thorough knowledge of syphilis etiology preferred.
