This Opportunity
Provides technical assistance and guidance for water resources engineering work and environmental permitting projects with a focus on dam and levee engineering. Tasks may include the design and development of processes, infrastructure, and operating strategies related to dams and hydraulic structures, levees, stormwater facilities, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, spillway and energy dissipation, dam and levee rehabilitation, dam and levee inspection, seepage mitigation, risk-based design, potential failure mode analysis, and other stormwater resiliency projects. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions and recommendations for engineering and design projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.


Your Impact

  • Perform high-level professional water resources engineering work and analyses, relating to dams and hydraulic structures, and surface water management in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and standards. 
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for spillway capacity assessment, drawdown analysis, dam breach studies, and stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Prepare watershed studies and evaluate regulated impoundment structures for compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare inputs to Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMAs) and participate in associated workshops.
  • Identify and analyze risk potential, perform risk-based design, and assist in Qualitative Risk Assessments (QRAs)
  • Evaluate alternative options for dam and levee design projects.
  • Develop quantities and provide other cost estimating inputs.
  • Perform dam and levee construction monitoring and other certification services as required by clients and regulators.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections and other illustrations for the interpretation and presentation of complex data, findings, and analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that clearly explain analysis methods, findings, and recommendations. 
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute mid-level projects which may include geotechnical, instrumentation and controls, structural, operations, environmental assessments, and regulatory permitting to provide future ready solutions for clients.   
  • Assist with the completion of project level task management which may include developing budgets and tracking hours and expenses for projects.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
     

Who You Are


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer in Training or Engineer license required.
  • Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Well-defined knowledge with stormwater management, drainage, erosion and sediment control, hydrology & hydraulics design, watershed studies, floodplain delineation, etc.
