Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Legal Officer (General Counsel) is responsible for overseeing the legal function at Verily. As Chief Legal Officer and member of the Verily leadership team (VLT), this leader will be a strategic partner to the CEO, providing senior management and the board of directors with effective legal counsel on a broad range of strategic matters for the company’s regulatory, compliance, commercial, employment law, corporate development, privacy, and other legal matters.

Location of the role is Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and oversight for all legal needs of the company, including but not limited to providing legal advice and guidance across Verily business functions and activities, while effectively leading the legal team and function. 
• Ensures that company legal matters are handled in a manner that protects Verily’s position in the marketplace and its reputation with a variety of stakeholders, including customers, partners, governments and regulatory agencies. 
• Provides sound legal advice on all issues affecting the existing and future business and product portfolios, including development of legal strategies to support business initiatives, product development lifecycles, and appropriately mitigates exposure to risk.
• In partnership with Finance, guides and structures, the contracting and maintenance of licensing agreements, strategic alliances, research partnerships, complex commercial transactions and other corporate collaborations.
• Provides leadership and technical guidance to ensure an effective global compliance program. Oversees programs to prevent and detect violations of laws, company policies, and other misconduct; promote ethical practices; and ensures the implementation of the compliance program throughout the organization. 
• Ensures that Verily conducts business in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and privacy standards.
