Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford or Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum, with the majority of the time spent at Milford.

The Role

GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic and exciting growth opportunity within General Motors! Within GMD, the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization is responsible for providing aftermarket support to our defense industry customers to ensure customer satisfaction and business growth. As part of the IPS organization, the Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations (SSEO) team has responsibility for the service deliverable readiness of every GMD vehicle globally. These include service part release, technical manuals, Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)/Labor Time Guide, Repair Parts and Special Tools (RPSTL) / Electronic Parts Catalog, diagnostic software, service programming, pre-delivery inspection forms, providing inputs to product design for serviceability and customer service information. The Service & Sustainment Engineering Operations Manager position plays a key role in ensuring the quality of these deliverables.

This position will be responsible for leading a team in support of GM Defense’s activity related to all deliverables listed above. The team is responsible for the creation of customer facing service documentation, service engineering / part release and customer training and support among other deliverables. This position leads (5) functions: Service Engineering, Sustainment Engineering, Service Information Development, Parts Provisioning and Field Service Support. This position is also responsible for shaping future GM Defense opportunities as it relates to how we support our customer base both here in the US and Globally.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate execution activities of the SSEO functions ensuring on-time delivery within the allocated budget
  • Champion the team’s efforts across Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and IT
  • Support the activity of the larger IPS Team related to planning and execution of logistics deliverables
  • Identify and manage 3rd Parties (sub-contractors) in the development and execution of key program deliverables
  • Work with Program Management team to find the most efficient and effective method to support the program’s deliverables related to SSEO objectives
  • Lead the staffing and development of the SSEO organization

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of relevant work experiences
  • Service planning and execution experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Experience in developing an organizational long-term plan to grow and develop staff
  • Solid understanding of Department of Defense and commercial vehicle products and related service/log requirements
  • Ability to define processes within a lean organization, while leveraging other centers or expertise
  • Passion for understanding the customer needs and delivering an exceptional product
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of GM and Government Leadership
  • Experience in service provider vetting and source selection requirements
  • Comfort learning new tools and technology concepts quickly and leading their deployment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and demanding time frames
  • Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization
  • Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with GM LLC SSEO functions (Customer Care & Aftersales and Product Engineering)
  • Solid understanding of GM Program Management and the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
  • Experience working with US Army, TACOM, and other DoD functions
  • Understanding of DoD and/or other government/military program management structures and the standards that drive them
