Position Overview

Leads and manages regulatory reporting for the Company’s consolidated investment portfolio across numerous legal entities in accordance with US Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).  Leads the research, analysis and documentation for U.S. regulatory accounting treatment of investments. ensures department alignment and coordination with all other areas of the company to achieve corporate business strategies and vision.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages resources in preparation of NAIC Statutory Annual and Quarterly Statements, Risk Based Capital Report, Statutory Management's Discussion and Analysis, Statutory Audited Financial Statements and Supplemental Investment Risk Interrogatories relating to investment assets and income.

  • Leads and manages work area activities including, but not limited to, team/department workflow, establishing and monitoring quality goals, reviewing work completed by direct reports, ensuring quality investment accounting practices and communication to associates and management.

  • Supports VP in developing and achieving department goals to ensure value-added services as well as implementing Global Finance strategies.

  • Initiates and leads projects that improve the efficiency of processes, quality of reporting, and strengthens the controls over investment accounting.

  • Supports the use and enhancement of multiple investment accounting technology tools for efficient data consolidation, analysis and use within the US Statutory software system.

  • Coordinates communication with external advisors as well as local accounting offices to ensure clear understanding of investment risks and exchange of data for proper accounting results and reporting.

  • Performs management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.

  • Works with other functional areas in the Company to achieve efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices and procedures and responds to and requests from other functional areas on various inquires.

Job Specifications

Education and Experience

Required:         

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience

  • 10+ years accounting or auditing experience with investment accounting experience and advanced experience in US SAP accounting

  • 5+ years management experience

                            

Preferred:        

  • Master's Degree

  • CPA certification

  • Progress towards FLMI or CFA Charter

  • 5+ years insurance/reinsurance or financial services accounting experience

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Intermediate/advanced level Word, Excel and SQL/Query skills.

  • Highly advanced people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, mentor and develop associates. 

  • Expert ability to analyze and improve business processes.

  • Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.

  • Expert knowledge of accounting/finance, including broad business practices, investment accounting, GAAP and statutory requirements.

  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received.

  • Highly advanced level of investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Highly advanced ability to balance and manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously.

  • Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines as well as translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions.
