Undergrad Intern – R&D Strategy & Performance Excellence (SPx)
What You Will Do

During this program you will be an integral member of the R&D Strategy & Performance Excellence (SPx) team, part of the overall R&D Strategy & Operations organization. This function is responsible for developing and executing R&D strategy and roadmap, leading and managing functional transformation, continuous improvement, and performance management across all R&D functions and delivering business results that drive peak R&D productivity and operational excellence globally.
As a member of Amgen's SPx team, your work will be highly collaborative across multiple functions and levels within Amgen, including Research & Development, Chief Medical Office, and others. In this role, you will be asked to leverage your analytical, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to work in teams, identify problems, conduct research, develop recommendations through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and deliver final projects related to one of the following areas:
- Strategic Transformation: Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive end to end transformations (case for change, planning, design, implementation and value realization). This includes digital transformation, cultural shifts, and process improvements to enhance overall performance. Amplify this further by securing executive sponsorship, structured decision making and effective change management.
- Capability Building: Participating in efforts to develop and enhance the skills, knowledge, and competencies of employees to ensure they can meet current and future business challenges. Building capabilities to do the transformations more efficiently (faster, cheaper, better). This includes training programs, leadership development, and talent management strategies.
- Business Performance Excellence: Contributing to continuous improvement by implementing leading practices, optimizing operations, and ensuring high efficiency, quality, and shareholder satisfaction. This often involves methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Total Quality Management.
- Technology and Data Analytics: Supporting the Data and Decision Sciences team in leveraging analytics and decision-enabling evidence to drive innovation, strategic prioritization, and scalable growth across R&D initiatives.

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $24.70 - $28.30 per hour
Basic Qualifications:
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
- Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
- Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship OR co-op
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a similar field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
