Shell is seeking a Sr. Control Systems Engineer for a position in Port Allen.
This role provides control systems and Automation support for manufacturing operations of the Shell Catalysts & Technologies Port Allen, LA facility. The role includes support of the existing Yokogawa distributed control system (DCS) and Yokogawa Prosafe (SIS) as well as conceptual design, detail design, execution, and startup support of capital projects. The Automation Engineer has a functional working knowledge of control systems applications and hardware, digital systems, process operations, operational goals, instrumentation, ESP variables, key quality specifications for feeds and products, impact on the environment, and major economic variables and how they impact site profitability.
Accountabilities:
Supporting projects in various stages of capital projects work process including concept development (identify/assess/select), scope finalization, and execution
Supporting tactic development, opportunity framing, and competitive scoping
Serving as an MOC Owner for MOCs
Participating in Developing and modifying operating procedures and participation in operator and staff training prior to startup of project facilities
Mentoring Control Systems Engineers supporting Projects and Run & Maintain
Participation in project PHAs and SIFPro evaluations
Provide Turnaround/Startup support
Work with Reliability Engineer to create Instrument PMs
Coordinate and lead IPF offline testing
Production and Maintenance support for day-to-day Operations
Work with C&P to negotiate Yokogawa Maintenance Contract
Assist I&E group with instrumentation troubleshooting
Coordinate Annual Yokogawa PM visit
Coordinate DCS Hardware/Software Upgrade (Every 4-5 years)
Train new board operators and participate in the Board Operator Qualification Process
Coordinate with Yokogawa on projects that may be too large to handle in-house and attend Factory Acceptance Test to ensure all graphics and logic meet site standards
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Process Control and Automation
Experience with Yokogawa DCS Configuration is strongly preferred
Experience supporting projects in various phases of capital projects work process
Experience in a manufacturing or technical support environment
Knowledge of safety reviews (PHA, SIFPro); previous participation a plus
Experience supporting operating unit control and instrumentation including complex control and loop tuning
Knowledgeable in Shell work processes including MOC, ESP, SIS, PCD, MTO
Knowledge of Shell Design Engineering Practices (DEPs) or industry standards in Process Control and Automation
Ability to use trends and DCS alarm & events to determine sequence of events (SOE) for trips/process upsets
Knowledge of various communication protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, ModbusTCP, EthernetIP)
Knowledge of Batch process
The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $182,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
