Job Description:

Are you ready to help shape the future of student admissions? The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking a visionary and strategic Associate Director of Admissions to drive innovation, efficiency, and excellence in the admissions process. We’re looking for a proven leader with significant experience in admissions operations, policy, and technology. The ideal candidate will be a tech-savvy professional familiar with Salesforce and Workday Student, a strong communicator capable of handling high-stakes student issues and institutional decision-making, and an innovative thinker who embraces change and drives continuous improvement.

As a senior leader, you’ll be at the forefront of admissions operations, policy development, and strategic enrollment initiatives. You’ll lead a dynamic team, implement cutting-edge technology, and ensure seamless, student-focused admissions experiences. From collaborating with faculty committees to enhancing NCAA compliance, your impact will be felt across the university and beyond.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead Admissions Operations: Oversee and streamline the processing of more than 35,000 applications annually.
  • Shape Admissions Policy: Develop and implement policies that align with university-wide enrollment objectives.
  • Collaborate Across Campus: Work with faculty, athletics, and academic colleges to drive enrollment success.
  • Enhance Student Access: Engage with high schools, community groups, and government entities to strengthen enrollment pipelines.
  • Leverage Technology: Maintain Workday Student expertise, manage eTranscript initiatives, and optimize efficiency.
  • Mentor & Develop Staff: Foster a high-performing team through coaching, performance management, and strategic staffing.



Example of Duties

• Oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of one or more major functions of the Admissions Office.

• Works with campus partners to develop, recommend and implement admission policies and procedures, recruitment/communication plans, and enrollment goals.

• Provides input and recommendations to strategic direction and effectiveness.

• Works with internal and external partners to develop and administer admissions programs.

• Reviews and develops budgets and make recommendations on program spending.

• Monitors revenue and expenditures and participate in strategic financial planning.

• Provides input into annual departmental objectives and action plans

• Accountable for achievement of key annual objectives for a department

• May provide input into institution policy within area of functional expertise

• Responsible for functional output of a department or work team

• Manages subordinate staff

• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel

• May provide input to the budgeting process

• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope

• May provide input into financial decisions that impact department or work area
