At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?

Pratt & Whitney's Mechanical Systems organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a motivated and talented design team in support of military engine development. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidate will perform mechanical design of bearing compartment hardware, including supports and housings, rotating bearing stack assemblies, carbon seal assemblies and rotating seal plates/runners, oil distribution systems, and coupling shafts. Mechanical Systems hardware includes a broad variety of components, functions, and engine system interactions. In addition to interfacing daily with the array of internal Mechanical Systems technical disciplines (Bearings, Structures, Thermal-Fluids, Seals, Project, etc), the engineer will interact with counterparts from adjacent mod centers and with systems analysts (Secondary Air, ED&L) to ensure the Mechanical Systems mod center hardware meets design requirements.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop technically sound solutions to design challenges that meet program schedule milestones and meet cost and weight goals. Design work will leverage NX 3D modeling software, first-pass design optimization software, and other analysis tools.
  • Design engine hardware arrangement and packaging to achieve maintainable, low-cost systems while meeting structural and functional requirements.
  • Understand the technical processes and design requirements of Mechanical Systems hardware, and how it interacts with the local system.
  • Utilize standard work and CORE tools to develop new processes that improve the Mechanical Systems design methods.
  • Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).
  • Negotiate design criteria/space with other groups, including internal and external customers.
  • Complete complex tolerance stacks for fit/function.
  • Travel up to 25% (Domestic).

What You Will Learn:

  • Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience in engine hardware arrangement and packaging, or an Advanced degree in Engineering with 3 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience in engine hardware arrangement and packaging.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued DOD Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Proven communication and teaming skills to provide direction to achieve team goals.
  • Interface effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Experience with 3D CAD solid modeling (NX) and PLM software (Teamcenter).
  • Strong hands-on ability to creatively solve technical problems and create design solutions with minimal direction.
  • Experience performing new Mechanical Systems gas turbine engine hardware development.
  • Experience with GD&T.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance before start date.

What We Offer:

  • Relocation: Eligible for Relocation.
  • Work Schedule: The standard work schedule applies, with an option to adopt a 9/80 sche
