Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director / SWA, the Head Softball Coach is responsible for overseeing all areas of the softball program including coaching and implementing practice plans; identifying, evaluating and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; administrative tasks, such as travel arrangements; fostering academic endeavors and personal growth of student-athletes; and fundraising.

  • Oversees all recruitment initiatives for the softball program, including identifying prospective student-athletes, determining the timing and/or setting(s) of pursuing recruits, and offering scholarships, as appropriate and considering any budgetary restrictions.
  • Oversees, establishes, and/or coordinates practice dates and times, game strategies, and training strategies for the softball program, in order to remain competitive at the Division I level.
  • Oversees academic initiatives, coordinates with the Matador Achievement Center (MAC) communications to help address academic issues, and supports student-athletes in academic endeavors.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated coaching and recruiting experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership

  • Knowledge of NCAA, University, and Intercollegiate Athletics policies and compliance expectations.
  • Ability to recruit and evaluate academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Skill in developing practice plans, game strategies, and training approaches.
  • Ability to support student-athlete academic success and personal growth.
  • Skill in budget monitoring, purchasing activities, and administrative coordination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $100,000 - $117,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
