JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) assists with patient care under the direction of and RN,
MD, PA or NP.
All patient care team members act to meet patient needs and learn new skills to achieve quality patient
care and customer service. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other,
other staff, and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect,
displaying sensitivity to age specific needs and cultural differences, and expressing and accepting
feedback in a professional manner.

YesTechnical Duties:
Accurately measures, records and reports vital signs with temperature, oxygen saturation and other data as assigned.
Performs 12 lead EKGs including right sided and posterior leads. Stamps and hand delivers the EKG to the Attending MD. Retrieves old EKGs.
Edits the EKGs each morning and delivers the copies and the computer disc to the EKG Department.
If certified, performs phlebotomy following the Nursing Department competency.
Places patients on bedside and portable cardiac monitors.
Sets up and maintains 02 therapy equipment and insures that oxygen tanks are full prior to patient transport.
Performs routine wound care including setting up suture tray, wound irrigation and applying dressing(s) as directed to include steri-strips and tube gauze.
Applies and removes splints following instructions from MD, PA, or NP. Applies ice-packs and orthopedic soft goods as directed. Assist patients with crutch walking.
Cleans equipment as needed especially portable monitors. Tags malfunctioning equipment and takes it to the appropriate place for repair.
Operates unit equipment e.g. Last Word tracking system, fax machine, Nurse Call and imprinter devise as required.
Documents all procedures and care given in an accurate, legible, and properly signed manner.

YesGeneral Patient Care Duties:
Prepares patients for examination, assisting as needed to get patient undressed and into a gown.
Provides or assists patients with personal hygiene.
Responds to patients’ call lights promptly.
Assists patients with elimination - urinal, bedpan, or commode. If patient able, assist to the bathroom. Records output.
Assist patients with nutrition such as setting up meal trays, cutting food and/or feeding.
For admitted patients, completes Property Record and gives patient or family member the Nursing Admission Assessment Form to complete.
Transports/transfers patients and equipment using principles of proper body mechanics.
Completes unit maintenance activities by stocking IV carts and bedside carts and other carts as needed.
Carries out duties of first responder in emergency situations.

Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patients and/or staff. Complies with HIPAA regulations.
Follows House and Telephone Standards as established by Medical Center.

Completes annual safety and violence in the workplace training.
