Sr. Backend Engineer (Kotlin, Calcite)

Our backend team is looking for a Senior Engineer who’s into clean code, smart architecture, and data processing at scale.</p><p></p><h3><strong>What you'll be doing:</strong></h3><ul><li><p>Building a fast, distributed query engine using Kotlin and Apache Calcite</p><ul><li><p>Developing an internal query language (MAQL) - parsing and transpiling into SQL</p></li><li><p>Developing and maintaining distributed microservices</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Solving complex data challenges (data fetching, data processing, data transfer, etc.) with modern tools like Arrow, DuckDB, Pandas, and Polars</p></li><li><p>Designing APIs, writing test-driven code, and shaping product direction with your team</p></li><li><p>Collaborating with Product, QA, and Architects in a product-focused engineering team</p></li></ul><p></p><h3><strong>Our Stack:</strong></h3><p>Kotlin (mainly), Python, Calcite, Arrow, DuckDB, Polars, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, Git</p><p></p><h3><strong>We’d love if you:</strong></h3><ul><li><p>Have strong coding and problem-solving skills</p></li><li><p>Know your way around SQL, distributed systems, and relational models</p></li><li><p>Have experience with Kotlin or Java</p></li><li><p>Are curious, independent, and care about clean, testable design</p></li></ul><p></p><h3><strong>Nice extras:</strong></h3><p>Apache Calcite/Arrow, Python, Kubernetes, gRPC, protocol buffers, frontend interest (TS/JS), BI/Big Data experience</p><p></p><p>Work from Brno, Prague, or hybrid – flexible setup, great team, real impact.</p><p></p><h3><strong>About GoodData</strong></h3><p>GoodData powers modern BI for the modern data stack.</p><p>GoodData is a cloud-based analytics platform.
