About the role
We are seeking a Shipping Assistant at our plywood mill in Beaumont, MS. This position is responsible for assisting the shipping department with managing shipping activities to meet customer requirements. This role involves tasks such as checking trucks in and out, prepping special orders (paper wrap, reload, etc.), cycle counts, shed audits, and load quality audits. This position also assists with administrative duties and ensures smooth workflow within the shipping department. The ideal candidate is safety-oriented, self-motivated, and is willing to work in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Work with all necessary departments to coordinate packing, labeling, and shipping of plywood products.
- Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records through cycle counts, shed audits, and inspections.
- Enter shipping information and data into relevant systems to track shipments and deliveries.
- Assist with other administrative tasks as needed such as preparing paperwork and communicating with truck drivers and sales.
- Communicate with truck drivers, sales, and/or management regarding shipment status, delivery dates, and potential issues. Address shipping related inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Verifying load lists and ensuring accurate product shipment.
- Locating and moving plywood within the plywood sheds for shipping.
- Ensuring products are properly packaged and labeled.
- Checking delivery status and informing relevant parties of delivery times.
- Communicating order information to production and management.
- Operate a forklift when necessary to pull products.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Six months to one year of related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a shipping department and familiarity with shipping/inventory management software is a plus.
- Excellent organization and administrative skills.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred and experience in a plywood mill is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment.
- Excellent computer skills required.
- Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Perform tasks such as walking, squatting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Able to work in a noisy, dusty, and non-temperature-controlled environment.
- Must be able to lift to 30 lbs. throughout the work shift.
