American Literature before World War I (tenure-track)

Description

The Department of English at the University of Notre Dame invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure‐track Assistant Professor position in any aspect of American literature from the nation’s earliest texts through the First World War. Position duties include teaching, research, and service. Special attention will be given to applicants with expertise in periods up to 1865, including the colonial period, the Revolutionary era, and the American Renaissance. We invite work that considers any number of genres such as fiction, poetry, oratory, drama, and nonfiction. The specialty is open and may involve expertise in multiethnic American literature (including African American literature and Native American literature); religion and literature; sound, performance, and media studies; transnational approaches to American literature; and/or American literature viewed as a branch of Global Anglophone literature. While these are priorities, scholars with other areas of focus are also encouraged to apply and will be given full consideration.

Qualifications

Candidates at the entry level must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree or have completed all but dissertation in American Literature or related field. Candidates at the advanced assistant level must have a Ph.D. in American Literature or a related field.
