The Novelis North America (NNA) team is seeking a Director, Sales Automotive. This position supports and leads the commercial auto team. Its focus is improving automotive business growth and profitability in line with the long-term plan and OEM customer strategies. Keeping strong connections with key accounts is essential. The role involves working closely to discover win/win solutions and co-engineering opportunities with the Novi Customer Solution Center.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manages a matrix OEM customer team encompassing supply quality, program management, technical product development, inside sales, Technical Service, CLR metal scrap, works with product management, and supply chain.
  • Serves as the strategic leader and mentor to sales personnel supporting the assigned OEM account.
  • Coordinates day-to-day OEM account activities across functions, including pricing, contracts, supply chain, program management, solution selling, and CLR scrap.
  • Leads OEM contract and pricing negotiations, partnering with Legal and Finance as needed.
  • Manages the OEM sales/marketing budget aligned to growth priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Forecasts and tracks volumes, in coordination with the inside sales team and Novelis operations/supply chain.
  • Delivers annual OEM performance versus plan for volume, margin, DSO, and cash flow.
  • Owns the OEM book of business, optimizing portfolio mix and profitability.
  • Builds relationships from manager through executive levels and strengthens Novelis’ commercial position with the OEM.
  • Develops OEM customer plans and multi-year commercial strategy with Technical Development and Product Management, tracks KPIs monthly, and supports the Automotive long-term plan.
  • Supports identifying new sales possibilities through understanding market demand and partners with customers, Novelis Mills, and the Global R&D Center/Novi Customer Solution Center. Leads and aids the Technical Development Engineer Matrix Team Member.
  • Evaluates new opportunities and program awards for operational fit, capacity alignment, and financial contribution, partnering closely with Operations and Supply Chain.
  • Collaborates with the other Novelis NNE/NA automotive regions to demonstrate our geographical presence, identify market opportunities, and perform marketing research alongside Product Management Team.
  • Represents the voice of the customer and drives supplier-of-choice performance through customer feedback and action plans.
  • Implements annual goals as agreed, including revenue, profitability, scrap return, and solution selling; builds a strong matrix OEM team through organization and leadership.
  • Creates efficiencies with a growth mindset, embraces change, and implements new technologies as needed.
  • Implements commercial excellence approaches.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, a related field, or Engineering.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing company, preferably with automotive industry experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to customer and Novelis office and plant locations within North America
  • Experience in leading others and developing a team

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, planning, and scheduling, capital project planning and implementation, finance and budgeting, quality systems, metallurgy, and maintenance
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, capable of producing results and forming solid teams in a fast-paced, changing environment while the auto market shifts to BEV and Autonomous Vehicles.
  • Proven track record to meet tight deadlines with emphasis on sustained accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities with the capacity to persuade others within a matrix team environment
  • Strong business partnering skills; ability to connect with individuals across functions and levels
