About the role

As Director of Personal Lines Underwriting, you will lead a dedicated team focused on delivering high quality underwriting experiences and exceptional service to a captive agency force. This role is critical as we transform and modernize underwriting processes to take advantage of new technologies and use data to streamline underwriting transactions in a production-oriented underwriting role. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to underwriting standards, enhancing personal lines underwriting strategy and modernization of the underwriting process.
You will provide leadership and oversite to ensure underwriting best practices are achieved. Success will be delivered through a dedication to the underwriting function and transformation to modern underwriting methods.

This role is responsible for executing on production standards, strategic planning, and budgeting. You must develop strong internal and external relationships with peers and business partners. You will be responsible for effectively developing a high performing team and fostering a positive team culture.

How does this role make an impact?

  • Coordinates and communicates with agency force and company management/agency/marketing staff to ensure business operations are appropriately supported and aligned with personal lines underwriting goals and objectives.
  • Assures prompt and efficient risk selection services are provided at a reasonable cost to clients. Oversees improvements in underwriting practices to maximize effectiveness and efficiency for various market segments. Analyzes new and existing book characteristics to identify trends and opportunities to enhance profitable growth. Works closely with agency management to enhance productivity of financial representatives.
  • Responsible for personal lines underwriting direction, philosophy, and strategy. Directs and oversees the underwriting of new and renewal personal lines business. Maintains overall accountability for personal lines underwriting results and workflow.

  • Effective communicator for presentations to variety of audiences including agents, vendors, business partners and executive leadership
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment and effectively deal with change
  • Prior experience successfully leading large teams
  • Experience in providing innovative underwriting solutions and challenging status quo
  • Takes personal responsibility for making tough decisions, meeting commitments and achieving expected results
  • Typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training, including at least 8 years of management/leadership experience
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree preferred
  • Advanced insurance education preferred such as ARM, CPCU, CIC, etc.

Base Pay Range:

$164,800-$226,600

The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.

Incentive Pay:

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for both a Short-Term Incentive plan and a Long-Term Incentive plan.
