SUMMARY:
DAWSON is seeking a senior-level biologist/natural resources specialist with over 10 years of relevant experience to join our Natural Resources team. The ideal candidate will lead and participate in a variety of federal projects throughout the country. The ideal candidate will work closely with staff and other project managers to oversee and conduct natural resource surveys in a variety of habitats, wetland delineations, habitat restoration activities, and lead the development of environmental documents. This position is an opportunity to lead project activities from start to finish including: the development of proposals and cost estimates, all project management planning and project execution tasks, conducting USFWS consultations and regulatory interpretation, field and geospatial data collection, data analysis; and scientific and technical report preparation. This position will have business development goals with the expectation of developing relationships with federal clients and procuring work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and oversee natural resource surveys, vegetation mapping, invasive species mapping, nesting bird surveys, raptor surveys, permitting, consultations, and environmental monitoring.
- Provide technical direction in the field to staff conducting biological and ecological surveys
- Conduct and supervise wetlands and Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) delineations, stream assessments, and permitting activities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead environmental monitoring and compliance inspections, ensuring adherence to project-specific requirements.
- Participate in habitat restoration and revegetation projects, including planting, invasive species removal, and long-term monitoring.
- Use GIS equipment and mapping software to collect, analyze, and present ecological data.
- Prepare and review technical reports, regulatory documents, monitoring plans, habitat and wetland mitigation plans, biological assessments, and NEPA documents.
- Facilitate and participate in consultations with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and clients regarding environmental resources and permitting.
- Ensure compliance with NEPA, ESA, CWA, MBTA, and other relevant environmental laws and regulations.
- Contribute to proposal writing, scope development, and project planning to support business development.
- Support DAWSON team members and Project Managers to effectively manage projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willing to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold) and possibly traverse steep terrain in some locations. Candidates must be willing to travel and have the ability to work in the field independently.
- Familiarity with flora and fauna in general.
- Familiarity with bird ID and nest identification.
- Familiarity understanding taxonomy and have good plant identification skills.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring at construction sites is a plus.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related field is required
- 10+ years of directly related environmental consulting experience
- Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
- Strong hands-on spreadsheet and online database comprehension.
- Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently as well as with supervision.<
