About the role
The Windows & Surface Business Development team is responsible for strategic partnerships, opportunity identification, and growth initiatives across Microsoft’s Windows + Devices business.
We are seeking a Director, Business Development- Windows & Surface to join the team driving major partnerships and strategic initiatives focused on establishing Windows as the personal computing platform for AI.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and execute ecosystem and IP acquisition strategies to drive the Windows Copilot Runtime and Copilot+ PC value prop. This will involve close collaboration with internal product, engineering, and marketing teams and developing creative partnership constructs, business models, and go-to-market strategies to secure desired outcomes.
- Stay deeply knowledgeable on the AI and PC silicon space: follow the latest emerging AI and PC silicon developments (e.g. AI model formats, Neural Processing Unit-based local AI inferencing, silicon architectures), maintain technical/platform subject matter expertise, and have a systematic approach to analyzing and executing against market trends.
- Lead strategic partnerships for several of Windows & Surface’s most strategically critical partners.
- Have consistent high-level visibility and be expected to be a trusted strategic advisor to executives across product, engineering, and marketing.

Responsibilities
Partnership Strategy
- Formulates partnership strategy for products and businesses with input from relevant stakeholders. Active management of deal pipeline by identifying, promoting, prioritizing, guiding, and influencing processes that develop and deliver on pipeline opportunities and optimize resources.
- Positions the Microsoft value proposition versus competitors and works with stakeholders to influence the build/buy/partner decision to meet customer needs, leveraging knowledge of Microsoft and customer issues in conjunction with product/industry teams to establish a foundation for future opportunities in competitive situations through collaboration. Provides insight on industry and/or competitive trends and drives action based on insights.
- Identifies and collaborates with a diverse set of stakeholders to develop plans to source deals that target high-priority gaps across technology, product, business, and/or geography. Identifies opportunities and strategy and maps target customers/partners. Utilizes quantitative data (e.g., usage, revenue) to inform internal and external decisions. Provides input into recommendations on partners.
