BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group - Lynchburg is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!
The Electrical Engineer is part of a team responsible for the design, build and support of new and existing custom automated manufacturing and inspection systems used in the Lynchburg manufacturing facility. The candidate will perform electrical control system hardware design and programming for new and existing automated systems. This position is primarily for PLC based systems design and programming, but the engineer may also perform PC-based system design and software application development as skills and needs exist.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Works cooperatively with teams of engineers (mechanical, electrical and software) and internal customers to design, build, maintain, and upgrade custom automated process control and data acquisition systems that support manufacturing, quality control, and other plant operations.
- Performs electrical/control system hardware selection and design including: controllers, power distribution, cabling, and peripheral devices (motors, encoders, sensors, valves, etc.).
- Documents electrical control system designs via build-to-print cabinet/enclosure assembly drawings and system wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Develops machine control application programs including motion control, data acquisition, and operator interfaces using a variety of motion controller, PLC/HMI, and PC-based platforms.
- Generates and executes system and software test plans and develops user manuals for the system/machine.
- Supports engineers and technicians in the assembly, installation, trouble-shooting, maintenance, and upgrade of the new and existing systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrate effective working knowledge of, or be willing to develop, the following skills:
- CAD (for electrical schematics and panel drawings)
- Motion control programming (Allen Bradley, Delta Tau/Omron, Galil)
- PLC-based programming (Allen Bradley/Rockwell)
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree is preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, or be willing to develop, the following skills is a plus:
- PC-based software development (Microsoft .Net VB and C#)
- Data base interfaces/interactions (SQL)
- Image analysis (National Instruments, Halcon, Matrox)
- Git, TFS/Azure Devops
- Any additional knowledge or previous experience in electrical engineering, software development, and/or with automation/automated equipment/systems is a plus.
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $109,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further dependi
