Job Description
Primary Function of Position
The Director of Systems Analysis will work with and manage a group of talented and dedicated people who use creative analytic techniques to solve hard problems. You will have a unique position within the company, leading a group that is central to Intuitive’s efforts in robotic algorithms, motion controls, and user interface design focused on Multiport Instruments. The Systems Analysis team owns the software aspects of the “feel” of the instruments and their clinical performance through the design and implementation of the algorithmic, motion control, haptic, and teleoperation aspects of the embedded and ancillary software. Systems Analysis also works in tight collaboration with mechanical engineering to develop the mechanical designs of multiport instruments. Design input comes from a variety of sources, including feedback from surgeons and our clinical engineers. The role supports a broad variety of multiport instrument projects in the new product development stage as well as sustaining projects supporting products currently in the field.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and functionally manage a team capable of developing and executing the Systems Analysis function including, but not limited to:
- Telepresence system control and dynamics-based safety algorithms
- Telepresence system signal processing algorithms, including calibration, haptics, friction and gravity compensation, and calibration software used elsewhere in the company
- Robotic system performance, “feel”, and aspects of user interface, including development of metrics to evaluate.
- Contribute to product design (mechanical and electrical systems) to ensure optimal system performance
- Continuously improve the System Analysis function, applying metrics of performance and comparing against best known practices
- Interface with Software and System Test to develop packages that meet product and company needs, and manage the Systems Analysis team to deliver unit-tested software fulfilling those needs
- Interface with the New Product Development group, providing technical leadership and engineering horsepower to develop and execute projects
- Interface with the Mechanical Engineering function, and contribute to mechanism design and prototype evaluation
- Drive the Systems Analysis team’s evaluation and contribute to Engineering’s clinical evaluation of product functions
- Ensure that intellectual property is safeguarded and developed in a timely fashion; manage the team to proactively generate intellectual property
- Ensure design engineers follow appropriate design history file guidelines per FDA requirements and hold design reviews in accordance with product development procedures
- Establish group priorities and team member work goals consistent with overall product development goals
- Assign tasks, set priorities, establish metrics and track progress
- Assess employee performance and provide coaching to improve performance
- Provide administrative leadership / control for planning, staffing, budgeting, and project/program cost tracking.
- Work and align projects and priorities across Business Units.
