About the role

Description

MeatEater, Inc. is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Human Resources Assistant to join our team! This person should be interested in building a career within Human Resources and have a strong interest in doing so in the outdoor industry. The HR Assistant will be responsible for day-to-day HR activities for MeatEater, Inc. under the supervision of the HR Manager. The HR Assistant will support in achieving HR functional goals and execute on several HR programs, policies, and procedures. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function as needed, including file maintenance, HRIS entry, and audit management. This role is also responsible for primary HR duties such as record keeping, onboarding and offboarding, and also supports key functions such as recruitment, performance management, and employee recognition. The Assistant will help manage recruitment processes inclusive of scheduling, communication with candidates, posting roles, and screening for entry and mid-level positions. This role will administer employee benefits and perk plans and acts as liaison between employees and insurance providers. This position will be key in supporting the workforce across all five brands and will help to ensure and maintain a positive employee experience for all contributors. The HR Assistant should be an accessible and considerate resource for employees at the organization, elevating complex matters to the HR Manager. Please note that the HR team at MeatEater works across the organization supporting employees at each brand and location and some familiarity with each brand is imperative to success in the role. 

Requirements
  • Develop and maintain status as a trusted business partner within the organization by building internal relationships and executing day-to-day facilitation of HR policies, programs, systems, and tools
  • Under the leadership of the HR Manager execute HR initiatives and documentation in the following categories: employee benefits, onboarding and offboarding, employee recognition, and recruitment
  • Benefits assistance (COBRA, open enrollment, onboard and offboard, dependent changes, implementation)
  • Day to day perks programs support (license reimbursements, credit/discounts, new hire gifts, etc.) 
  • Implement and manage employee recognition programs in collaboration with HR Manager
  • HR compliance and audit management, including I9, new hire paperwork, and health records
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files
  • Assist in maintaining quarterly org chart updates with support of HR Manager
  • Facilitate quarterly internship cohort, recruiting interns and managing the program with support of HR Manager 
  • Support recruitment process management for entry and mid-level roles  including posting positions, vetting resumes, managing communication with applicants, interviewing, and drafting offer paperwork as needed
  • Act as a secondary contact for workforce for employee relations matters, with key focus on retail employees
  • HR folder organization and legal compliance support
  • Serve as additional employee resource, fielding daily inquiries and escalating urgent or complex HR matters to  Manager of HR or CFO as needed to ensure timely and risk-reducing resolution
  • Under leadership of the HR Manager, maintain HR compliance for the organization (local, state, federal, EEO-1, ACA, ADA, etc.) 
  • Assist with distribution and tracking of safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications
  • Actively advocate for and role model MeatEater’s culture and core values
  • Ensure active development within the HR field of work with support and guidance from HR Manager
  • Other duties as beneficial to MeatEater

Education/Training 

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Communications or related field preferred OR 1-2 years experience

Experience 

  • 1-2 years experience preferred but not required

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Interest in supporting teammates and advancing the businesses culture and succeed
  • Eager to learn

  • Interest in Hunting, Fishing, and Conservation or otherwise outdoors activities
