We are seeking a Sr Software Engineer that wants to join to our fast-paced and cohesive team in pursuit of Illumina’s mission and values. Our passion is making the software that aids in manufacture of Illumina products that are being used to find breakthroughs in human health and agriculture. You will work collaboratively with the talented chemists, bioinformaticians, industrial engineers and business people that make Illumina a global leader in genomics. Product owners will look to you to provide custom software solutions that draw on your ingenuity as a software engineer. You will have the opportunity to work in many software functional areas such as business integrations, robot APIs, manufacturing workflows, quality control, and bioinformatic processing. This position will constantly expand your technical skill set and develop your potential for advancement.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop software to control and or monitor manufacturing machines, systems and quality assurance equipment.
  • Work with departmental Process and Equipment Engineers to gather requirements.
  • Write requirements and specifications for software, based upon input provided by process owners.
  • Document code according industry best practices.
  • Utilize defect tracking and version control tools as an integral part of the software life cycle development process.
  • Work cross functionally with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality to develop software-based solutions for manufacturing new products and improve the manufacture of existing products.
  • Develop tools to assist in the manual production and assembly of our products.

Experience:

  • Experience creating shopfloor control software applications utilizing C#, .NET Java, Python
  • Experience developing multi-threaded applications.
  • Experience and understanding of basic automated manufacturing systems, tools and components, experience of TwinCat & Rockwell Studio preferred.
  • Experience developing instrumentation/machine control software preferred.
  • Experience with Network based data retrieval, developing and optimizing data analysis algorithms and data visualization preferred.
  • Experience developing using unit testing.
  • Experience with OPC UA, REST, SOAP preferred.
  • High level problem solving, and reasoning skills required.
  • Experience and understanding of basic automated manufacturing systems, tools and component
  • Work experience in biotech or medical device field desired.
  • Experience with ISA-95 with a strong understanding for the boundaries between enterprise and control systems
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing in a high-tech consumables industry and/or semiconductor manufacturing desired.
  • Good interdepartmental communication skills and documentation skills are required.
  • High level of attention to detail is absolutely required.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Experience/Education:

  • Typically, requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5+ years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Software certifications and technical training is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for the Sr Software Developer ( Manufacturing Software) role based in the United States of America is: $124,300 - $186,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
