Position Description Summary
Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise in delivery of the sociology program curriculum.
Duties
The sociology program is part of the Department of Anthropology, Criminal Justice, and Sociology, with majors and minors on all three campuses of Commonwealth University, as well as courses in the general education program. Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant may be called upon to cover a range of courses, including Introduction to Sociology, required courses in Research Methods and Sociological Theory, as well as lower or upper level electives. At the lower level are electives like Social Problems, Marriage and Family, and Racial and Ethnic Relations. At the upper are electives like Deviant Behavior, Sociology of Education, and Organizational Behavior. For a full list, please consult the Commonwealth University course catalog. There is also the possibility that a candidate may be asked to teach a senior seminar on a topic of their choosing. Temporary needs may arise on any of the three Commonwealth University campuses. Please note multi-modal and online delivery methods may be needed.
Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Sociology, with academic preparation in relevant areas of program need
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Sociology
- A record of successfully teaching sociology at the college level
- Experience teaching students from a wide variety of backgrounds
