Job Summary:

We are seeking candidates for a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Social Work & Sociology.  The successful candidate will have earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) and an earned doctorate in Social Work or Sociology (or a doctorate in Social Work, DSW) by fall of 2026. Areas of specialization are open, and the department is interested in providing students with opportunities to understand the application of social work principles to issues such as social inequality and disparities, behavioral health, research methods and public policy. We seek dynamic faculty who are student-centered and model the knowledge, skills and values necessary for ethical practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Social Work or Sociology, or DSW, by fall of 2026
  • MSW (from a CSWE accredited program)

Essential Functions:

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within their areas of expertise, as well as core courses such as, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Social Work, and Social Research Methods. We welcome candidates who will place an emphasis on active learning and quality teaching in a small classroom setting and who can expertly integrate relevant sociocultural content into their teaching.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to contribute to a dynamic learning environment and facilitate student learning about contemporary social work practice.

The successful candidate will also have a promising and active research agenda that leads to peer reviewed publications and presentations.

In summary, essential duties include:

  • Undergraduate instruction with an expectation of competence in the use of instructional technology
  • Responsible for academic advisement of students
  • Participation in departmental activities
  • Active research agenda

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience teaching at the college level.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:

The Social Work & Sociology department is one of four departments in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The other departments are psychology, crime and justice studies, and teacher education. The School also has graduate programs as follows: MA School Psychology; MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Masters of Arts in Teaching; Masters of Education, Contemporary Curriculum and Instruction, and Master of Social Work.

The Social Work & Sociology department in collaboration with the Criminal Justice department offers a dual major in Social Work and Crime and Justice.
