We are seeking an experienced Transportation Leader to manage and optimize our heavy equipment transportation operations. This role requires expertise in planning, compliance, and logistics to ensure the safe and efficient movement of oversized and specialized loads. The ideal candidate will lead a team of drivers, dispatchers, and logistics professionals while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations, route planning, and cost control measures.


Key Responsibilities:

· Oversized Load Management: Oversee the transport of heavy machinery, construction equipment, and oversized loads, ensuring proper permits, routing, and compliance with regulations.

· Fleet & Logistics Oversight: Manage the scheduling, maintenance, and deployment of heavy-haul trucks, trailers, and specialized transport equipment.

· Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and state-specific heavy-haul regulations. Implement safety protocols and training programs.

· Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor managers, drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and accountability.

· Route Planning & Permitting: Coordinate with state agencies and permitting authorities to plan safe, legal, and cost-effective routes for oversized loads.

· Vendor & Partner Relations: Work closely with freight brokers, permit providers, escort vehicle services, and third-party logistics companies to facilitate smooth operations.

· Budget & Cost Management: Monitor and control transportation costs, including fuel efficiency, toll expenses, and equipment maintenance.

· Technology Integration: Utilize, GPS tracking, and fleet telematics to improve visibility and efficiency.

· Customer Service & Communication: Ensure on-time deliveries and clear communication with clients regarding shipment status, delays, and special requirements.

· Performance Tracking & Reporting: Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as load efficiency, safety incidents, and cost-per-mile to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or related field (preferred but not required).

· 10 years of experience in heavy equipment, heavy-haul, or oversized load transportation.

· In-depth knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and state transportation regulations for oversized/overweight loads.

· Experience managing lowboy trailers, flatbeds, step decks, and other specialized heavy-haul equipment.

· Strong leadership experience in managing drivers, dispatchers, and fleet operations.

· Proficiency in GPS tracking and fleet management tools.

· Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.

· Ability to work under pressure and adapt to fast-changing schedules, weather conditions, and road restrictions.
