Job Summary
The Manager Medical Imaging Operations is responsible for the daily operations of the Medical Imaging department, with a goal of meeting patient needs and delivering high quality imaging services. The Manager will work closely with radiologists, technologists, and administrative staff to optimize workflow efficiency, enhance patient safety, and uphold the highest standards of imaging excellence.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Oversee ongoing and daily operations of the Medical Imaging Department, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to all patients and providers.
- Ensure staff scheduling aligns with patient volume and clinical needs, optimizing efficiency and minimizing wait times.
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of imaging technologists and administrative staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Promote teamwork within and between departments.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with best practices.
- Responsible for compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Ensure all staff comply with safe radiation practices and protocols at all times.
- Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, other departments and leadership to support integrated patient care and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure that information is effectively communicated to staff and shared throughout the department and organization. Promote an environment of constructive feedback and effective coaching.
- Ensure new hires receive orientation and training, and that all staff have the resources, tools and training necessary to fulfill their duties.
- Maintain and monitor imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance, coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed, and evaluate new technology for potential acquisition. Keep service logs and records.
- Manage and monitor inventory, ordering necessary supplies while ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, make decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolve staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.
- Assist in developing and managing the department’s budget, tracking expenditures, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Monitor and analyze departmental performance metrics, implementing improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Address patient concerns or complaints and work to improve the overall patient experience within the department.
- Is flexible to work weekends, evenings and holidays on occasion to meet department needs.
- Perform related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Current ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB certification in one or more modalities.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical imaging, with at least 1 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of imaging modalities, hospital operations, and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.
- Proficiency in healthcare management software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Familiar with CPT codes and the appropriate charging of imaging procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and compliance with safety standards.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Current ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB certification in one or more modalities.
- New York State Radiologic Technologist License
