Summary of Position

 

Maintains and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment, specifically pumps, valves, motors, and electrical control equipment.  Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and monitoring the District-wide maintenance schedule. Heading a team of maintenance personnel in the day-to-day and emergent maintenance of water, wastewater, and electrical equipment. Must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to multitask while training and supervising subordinates.

 

Organizational Relationships

 

 Reports to:  Maintenance/Asset Manager and Assistant Maintenance & Asset Manager as required

2.  Directs:  Assistants as assigned

3.  Other:   Interfaces with the public and with various repair and supply services.

Coordinates with other departments concerning requirements for maintenance

and repair.       

 

Examples of Work

 

  • Evaluate the operating condition of electrical and mechanical equipment and make recommendations for repair/replacement options to the Maintenance/Asset Manager.    
  • Establishes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules for each type of equipment.
  • Trains and evaluates maintenance personnel on safety, maintenance programs, techniques, proper operation, and other duties.
  • Researches and recommends outside entities for repair of equipment, which is beyond the capability of District staff.
  • Establishes and maintains the maintenance shop.  Ensures all required tools are available.
  • Performs corrective and preventative maintenance on pumps and valves, and maintains records of maintenance activity.
  • Performs equipment modifications such as impeller change-outs, mechanical seal conversions, etc.
  • Calibrates equipment such as pressure regulating valves.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be required.

Acceptable Experience and Training

 

High school graduation or equivalent plus at least 3-5 years’ experience in the maintenance of pumps, valves, motors, control equipment, electrical supply up to 480v, or any equivalent of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience leading a maintenance division.

 

Knowledge of safety precautions associated with work on electrical equipment and work in confined spaces.  Knowledge of safety precautions associated with hydraulic and power tools.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Extensive knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance repair of water treatment and distribution systems, including some basic electrical knowledge.

 

Skill / Ability to:  train other personnel, learn and comply with state and federal regulations, perform mathematical calculations, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communications, tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather cond
