About the role

The Project Manager is responsible to lead a Project Team in the planning and implementation of all activities for the successful design, procurement, construction, commissioning and turnover of major projects and programs in Substation Operations capital portfolio as well as interconnection projects and work for other organizations. The Project Manager is responsible to oversee all financial (budgets, appropriations, current working estimates, etc.) and scheduling aspects of the project. The successful candidate also ensures that the proper and timely permits and licenses are obtained, and construction and commissioning activities are properly conducted. The Project Manager maintains standards for project and/or program management through the attainment of schedule dates, milestones, project, and program target goals. The Project Manager also manages, participates, and contributes to the production of deliverables and work products during the project planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure.The Project Manager establishes effective lines of communication among departments, such as, Engineering, Law, Real Estate, Public Affairs, Supply Chain, Construction, Operations, Protective Systems Testing, System Operations, Transmission and Electric Operations to ensure proficient and timely dissemination of significant project data and to ensure safe and timely completion. Additionally, the selected candidate will act as a liaison for all regulatory and public officials during project implementation, and address community concerns associated with the project. Candidate is also responsible for writing technical reports and conducting technical presentations to all levels of management. Core Responsibilities
  • Lead a Project Team in the planning and implementation of all activities for the successful design, procurement, construction, commissioning and turnover of major projects and programs in Substation Operations capital portfolio as well as interconnection projects and work for other organizations.
  • Prepare and submit outage requests, track status of outage requests and work to identify opportunities to consolidate work into the minimum number of equipment outages.
  • Oversee all financial (budgets, appropriations, current working estimates, etc.) and scheduling aspects of the project.
  • Develop and maintain schedules and work plans, and formulate resource capability plans with working groups.
  • Evaluate and provide projections of project/program financial status, including identifying potential overrun conditions, and development of recovery plans to address these situations.
  • Ensures that the proper and timely permits and licenses are obtained and construction and commissioning activities are properly conducted.
  • Identify emergent capital work items and develop plans to address these within various time constraints.
  • Respond with agility to changing business needs.
  • Promote safety and operational excellence through project management excellence.
  • Track and resolve or escalate issues, risks, and change requests.
  • Prepare and/or update capital budget white papers and appropriations in support of various SSO capital projects and programs.
  • Establishes effective lines of communication among departments, such as, Engineering, Law, Real Estate, Public Affairs, Supply Chain, Construction, Operations, Protective Systems Testing, System Operations, Transmission and Electric Operations to ensure proficient and timely dissemination of significant project data and to ensure timely completion.
  • Act as a liaison for all regulatory and public officials during project implementation, and address community concerns associated with the project.

  • Ensure human performance improvement tools are integrated in the planning and execution of projects to ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years' experience in the construction/operation/engineering/planning of major electrical, civil, and mechanical projects and/or operation of the Con Edison Electric System. or
  • Master's Degree and 6 years experience in the construction/operation/engineering/planning of major electrical, civil, and mechanical projects and/or operation of the Con Edison Electric Sys
