The Applied Research & Technology (ART) team works with all Collins Aerospace strategic business units to research, innovate, demonstrate, and accelerate the adoption of transformative technologies. By joining our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring in redefining aerospace. We seek candidates with proven research credentials in multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) for Collins Aerospace Applied Research and Technology in Windsor Locks, Connecticut across multiple disciplines.

As a Sr Research Aerospace Engineer at Collins Aerospace you will be working to develop the next generation of aircraft to push performance and sustainability to the next level. Knowledge in multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization, aircraft systems analysis, structural and fluid simulation as well as model-based systems engineering is advantageous.

This individual will ideally work a hybrid role at our Windsor Locks, CT location but can possibly work remote.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implementation  and  use  of  preliminary  design  tools  for  development  of  aircraft systems.·

  • Development of parametric models of aircraft systems and components.

  • Development and application of design optimization methodologies·

  • Applied research and collaboration with business units to develop the next generation of aircraft.·

  • Documentation of implemented methods and results·

  • Execute R&D agenda and contribute to the business development of Collins Aerospace.·

  • Conduct  joint applications-oriented research  for  Collins  Aerospace  and  with  external research partners.·

  • Contribute  to  a  growing  research  agenda  for  future  aerospace  systems  within  the Collins Aerospace Advanced Research &Technology.

  • Must be willing and able to travel 10% of time (international)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience 

  • 2+ years experience with conceptual and preliminary aerospace design and analysis tools

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

  • 2+ years experience in computer programming skills in Python, MATLAB

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A  PhD  in  Aerospace  Engineering,  Mechanical  Engineering,  Systems  Engineering, Applied Mathematics with 3+ years of industrial or academic experience.

  • 2+ years research  record  in  aircraft  design,  aircraft  systems  design,  aerospace conceptual and preliminary design, multidisciplinary analysis and optimization

  • Demonstrated capacity to apply optimization methods to real-world problems.
