Field Service Technician II

Field Service Technician II (FST) will perform installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial and medical high pressure piping systems, cryogenic liquid cylinder systems, microbulk systems, bulk systems and industrial gas generating equipment at Airgas and customer sites. The FST will ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of our products to the customers’ point of use. The FST will be responsible for performing regularly scheduled preventative maintenance checks on all Airgas owned and customer owned systems/equipment. FST will maintain an inventory of critical parts and supplies on their service truck and in shop facilities where provided.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

• Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.

• Performs cryogenic and high pressure piping systems installations, inspections, and repairs of such equipment as per NFPA standards and manufacturers’ recommended procedures to ensure operational safety and efficiency.

• Assists and performs service, inspection, use, and maintenance of shop tools/equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ recommended procedures.

• Identifies and communicates service issues or concerns to the Field Service Manager (FSM) and/or Field Service Coordinator (FSC) for timely repair response.

• Maintains inventory of critical parts and spares, perform inspections and maintain all equipment associated with the basic function of this position.

• Submits completed service orders, estimates and invoices to the FSM and/or FSC in a timely manner to facilitate customer billing.

• Interacts with both internal and external customers in a professional manner.

• Works as a team player with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds ensuring the job is completed satisfactorily.

• Demonstrate proficient relative skills; upgrades relative knowledge and skills on an on-going basis.

• Prioritizes workload to maximize time spent working on equipment at internal or external customer locations.

• Attends and participates in regular company safety meetings.

• Regular and predictable attendance is essential in this role. May be required to work long hours based on the needs of the customer and service requirements. Participates and follows requirements of the on-call program.

Required Education: 

• College or technical degree preferred.

Required Length and Type of Experience:

• Desired minimum of two to five years of diagnostic and/or repair experience in some or all of the following is required: cryogenics, high pressure piping, brazing, programmable controls, pumping systems, mechanical aptitude and/or process instrumentation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

• Strong mechanical aptitude.

• Experience in the HVAC or plumbing industry with hands on welding/brazing skills.

• Able to understand piping and tank detail from manuals and mechanical drawings and/or P&ID’s.

• Ability to understand and apply applicable standards for good manufacturing practices (GMP) set forth by the CGA, NFPA, NEC and other professional/regulatory bodies.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean DMV report, may require DOT physical based on assigned vehicle.

• Must have strong math skills; ability to calculate figures and convert units of measure.

• Takes initiative to problem solve and troubleshoot with results.
