The Opportunity | Director of Operations

We are looking for a Director of Operations, reporting to the Senior General Manager of the Fleet Solutions business unit, this is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Operations leader to step into a challenging role, own it, drive success, lead change and quickly expand your career at Curtiss-Wright.

Our Fleet Solutions group supports the US Navy aircraft carrier, submarine, and various support vessels repair work. We provide technical direction primarily associated with shipboard installation and overhauls of Curtiss-Wright and OEM partnership equipment. This unique opportunity will have full Operations responsibility for the entire Fleet Solutions business unit, including facilities in Chula Vista (San Diego), CA., Chesapeake, VA., and Mayport, FL.

Location: Chula Vista, CA OR Chesapeake, VA

Compensation Range: $150,000 - $200,000 per year

Your Challenge

  • Immediate task will be to familiarize yourself with the Business Unit, its activities, our market, customers, product lines, capabilities, current strategy, business plans and policies.
  • As our Fleet Solutions Director of Operations, you will have broad responsibility for the strategic direction and guidance of each of our three facilities and the site leadership teams, including administration, program management, contracts, engineering, support functions, procurement/sourcing, operational excellence, EHS, field service and manufacturing employees.
  • This position has a peer relationship with our Director of Business Development and will be asked to work closely with our BD team in support of our clients needs.
  • Build out a standardized and stable Operations team and manufacturing locations that work consistently, collaboratively, and effectively.
  • Provide leadership guidance to the office and manufacturing teams towards successfully achieving key business metrics (P&L, Program execution, On-Time Delivery, Quality, EH&S, etc.)
  • Monitor the financial performance of all three sites, and the Business unit as a whole, to ensure targets are being met.
  • Involved in translating customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing/business strategies and processes, to ensure a growing and profitable business.
  • Responsibility to develop and implement evolving staffing plans/requirements to meet customer expectations and location budgets.
  • Establish overarching and cascading objectives to move our Fleet Solutions sites forward and raise the standard of operational excellence. Help establish and deploy a LEAN operating framework utilizing the CW Way programs, our Integrated Master Schedule, and drive performance metrics with visual indicators throughout via PowerBi.
  • Work proactively with your site management teams to ensure that site efforts and project initiatives are aligned with business needs and strategic direction.
  • Take ownership of coaching and developing your staff and all of the Operations team members; providing cross-training initiatives that fosters an environment of employee involvement.
  • Ensure tight control is maintained over business performance and that operating management responds quickly and effectively to any problems and/or adverse trends. Proactively resolve technical, people, and production issues to ensure success of the team while exceeding customer expectations.
  • This role will be required to develop a comprehensive Operations Strategic Business Plan during the first 3 months of employment by evaluating existing business processes, identify areas of gaps or risks, and develop formal action plans to reduce risks and continuously improve the business.
  • Build and maintain strong customer business relationships in domestic and international government markets and commercial shipyards.
  • Maintain level of oversight to ensure compliance with industry regulations, regulatory agencies, export laws and technology transfer as they apply to proposal development, contract negotiations, and program execution.
  • Assist and/or lead Program Reviews with customers.
  • Champion change through the business to continually improve performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute on yearly capital expenditure programs.
  • Manage compliance with local, state, and national regulatory bodies, as needed.
