Role Description
The Performance Engineering team at Form is responsible for testing, operating, maintaining, and reporting on the performance of Form’s three full-scale system prototypes — We are looking for an experienced field test operations engineer to support the development of Form Energy’s groundbreaking battery system. In this role, you will be embedded within the Systems product development organization and will work closely with engineers to install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain safe operation of our early phase fielded prototypes. Your work will balance creative problem solving, data analysis, and collaboration with design engineers with thoughtful planning and maintenance of safe operations. You will bring an aptitude for solving real world problems, creating rigorous documentation, working with industry safety standards such as OSHA and NFPA 70E, and a strong foundation of technical skills. What you'll do:
Dedicate about 40% of your time to ensuring safe operations and maintenance of the full-scale test facility in Oakland and the remaining time to test development and execution
Maintain documentation of work instructions, job hazard assessments, safety training programs, and operations best practices.
Coordinate with Facilities and EHS teams to ensure the field test facility is integrated with company best practices for site operations.
Uphold a strong culture of safety and 5S at the field test facility.
Collaborate with systems architects to develop a verification plans for product requirements and with design engineers to define test procedures and performance metrics
Establish standard processes for commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance that are implemented by internal Project Engineering and Operations teams
Define, manage, and execute a test program that aligns with product verification goals
Maintain documentation of test goals, procedures, and outcomes
Work with design engineers and field technicians to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware issues and software bugs
Support data integrity across software-defined data pipelines, external data acquisition systems, and ad-hoc field measurements
Analyze data from completed tests and communicate findings to design engineers and other stakeholders
What you'll bring:
7+ years experience with field applications of power systems, including commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar
Experience working with communications protocols, particularly Modbus TCP, DNP3, MQTT
Demonstrated experience leading root cause analysis for electrical systems such as inverters, power distribution components, and energy storage systems.
Experience building safety programs and operating test facilities (e.g. labs, field sites), particularly knowledge
