POSITION OBJECTIVE                                                                         

The Acting Internship/Advanced Clinical Elective Site Director is responsible for the management of all advanced clinical offerings to medical students at the designated site, which includes 1) supporting the development of a wide array of high value electives, 2) to optimize the experience of senior medical students including standardizing the acting internships (subinternships), 3) addressing student assessments including faculty development, and 4) contributing to transition to residency components. The Acting Internship/Advanced Clinical Elective Site Director will have the responsibility for organizing complex tasks and providing leadership, advice, and guidance regarding the activities, programs, and requirements for final year medical students. The Director’s responsibilities are directly related to the priority of the MD program to best prepare our students for their residency training.  This position will report to the site-specific Assistant Clerkship Dean.

This is a funded position at 0.1 FTE (half day per week).

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.    Strategy Development:  Lead a comprehensive inventory of current advanced clinical elective offerings to better understand the landscape of what is offered. Facilitate program evaluation for these offerings to better inform students about the experiences. Coordinate the effort to stand up the scheduling system and provide guidance for future modifications to the system to streamline how students are scheduled into elective rotations. Canvas student performance assessment strategies in these electives and provide guidelines for best practice to achieve consistency and comparability across the catalog of offerings.

 

2.    Transition to Residency: Participate in the transition to residency program required for final-year students.

 

3.    Assessment:  Contribute to the faculty development activities around high value assessment data on our students’ clinical performance during advanced clinical electives and activities. Work to provide clear rubrics for student assessment across electives of different types to add transparency to the work. Inform the implementation and operations of the learning management system as it relates to advanced clinical electives.

 

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.    Support activities related to LCME accreditation for advanced clinical activities and electives. Work with registrar’s office to ensure accurate documentation on transcripts. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS

1.    Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work and communicate with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, School and Hospital Affiliates

2.    Professional and effective oral and written communication skills; strong writing and editing skills, must demonstrate the ability to effectively and accurately relay information.

3.    Strong organization skills: ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines; must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and proven ability to successfully follow-through on assigned projects; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

4.    Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team; must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable, and a self-starter

5.    Excellent problem-solving skills; must demonstrate sound judgement and effective decision making; ability to identify and implement alternative resolutions and strategies
